RESILIENT AFRICA RISING: REFLECTIONS FROM THE 32ND AFREXIMBANK ANNUAL MEETINGS
Attending the 32nd Afreximbank Annual Meetings in Abuja (25–28 June 2025) AAM2025 was not just an event – it was a profound journey into Africa’s future.
Set under the stirring theme “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,” this historic gathering brought together over 6,000 leaders from governments, finance, and academia to chart a bold new economic narrative for our continent that blends resilience with transformation.
Milestones in Motion
The launch of the African Trade Report 2025 revealed a robust 13.9% rebound in trade – signaling optimism amid global turbulence – and underscored Africa’s imperative to move beyond commodities into industrialized, integrated economies. The unveiling of the PAPSS African Currency Marketplace (PACM) addressed long-standing currency bottlenecks, enabling seamless local-currency exchanges and slashing trade costs.
The meetings also crowned the outgoing President, Prof. Oramah, with Nigeria’s highest honor – GCON – and marked the appointment of Dr. George Elombi as the new President of Afreximbank.
Why It Matters to EmpowerHer Life Foundation
EmpowerHer champions economic empowerment for African women. AAM2025’s breakthroughs aren’t abstract – they’re levers for change. PAPSS-powered trade, for instance, opens digital markets where African women entrepreneurs can thrive without facing currency or banking barriers.
Moreover, accelerated intra-African financing channels offer resources for vital grassroots programs – like ours – focused on women’s financial literacy, digital inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods.
Inspiration in Action
At AAM2025, conversations weren’t theoretical – they were electric, inclusive, and forward-looking. I witnessed how institutions can move from resilience to momentum – and how scalable, women-led initiatives can truly shape this new era of African trade and inclusion.
This is why EmpowerHer exists – to harness this momentum, uplift voices, and equip women to lead from the ground up in this exciting transformation.
Africa’s moment is now.
Let us be the change-makers, the builders, and the bridge to a future where equity, innovation, and collective hope define our shared prosperity.
